I’m more scared to go back to high school than I am to start college! Tips on balancing college & high school?

I know this isn’t really a question, but I just need to "put it out there"… I can’t keep this to myself any more and I can’t find any more articles on the subject… Google has officially let me down :(

Two words: dual enrollment

That’s right, at 16 I’ve made the decision to "skip my senior year of high school" to start a new life in college. Now over the past summer I was a part of a program that let me live on campus with other 18/19 year old freshman and do undergraduate research funded by the NSF. Now I don’t look (or act) like I’m 16 in any way, and many people don’t believe me when I tell them how old I really am, so I found myself fitting in quite well with the "college crowd"… a bit TOO well, if you get what I’m sayin’ :) )

Fact: I never really "fit in" in high school.

This will be my 13th year at my school (it’s private, so K-12th). People aren’t "mean" to me, I just don’t fully fit in with them. I don’t eat lunch with them, have actual conversations with them, or hang out with them outside of school, but we at least say "hi" and chit chat every now and then. But even then, because it’s private school, every single girl in my class is a size 00, 0, or if they really eat a lot, a 2 and I’m …well…. a 10… so that causes a lot of "emotional stress" on me and even causes me to be depressed about it. They intimidate me like it’s nobody’s business!

But at college, I fit in… finally! When I was there during the summer, I actually fit in people who weren’t like me at all… and I loved it! I may be 16, but I just belong there, I can’t really describe it. People don’t really seem to care if I’m a "few pounds heavier" (I’m not obese or anything, I’m just not really small)

My stomach literally flips when I think of having to go back (even if it is only ONE hour per WEEK for ONE class) to high school. I can hardly bear the thought of having to put on that God-awful plaid skirt that only looks good if it’s jacked up to your butt… and ,like I said, unless you’re a size 0, that just doesn’t look so hott.

So like I said, this isn’t really a "question" per se, but it just helps me to "get it off my chest" so I don’t feel like I’m holding it all in. I can’t tell my parents, because they’re just sooo proud of me, and I can’t tell my friends because… well… I just can’t… it’s too personal. Though I guess if I neeeeeed to ask a question, how about this?

Has anyone done dual enrollment and do you have any tips on how to balance the somewhat double-life that you have to live? I mean, I feel very "on the fence" trying to go between two totally different types of people. Any tips?

Thanks for reading!

Wow this sounds like me… I’m doing dual enrollment. But i’m scared of both high school and college. High school friends aren’t bad they just were’nt loyal exactly haha.. There was so much sh** talking behind your back it was ridiculous. I’m really glad I’m done with all that high drama nonsense though as I won’t be going back not even for one class. I had friends but they weren’t exactly great friends which is worse than having no friends at all I think. I just really really hope college will be better and people will be more open and less judgmental. I hated the whole established cliques thing too and being the new kid is hard.

So anyway I’m doing college full time thank god but I’m really really scared. But hopefully it will be good. And the people there won’t suck. :) I think I’m most scared of starting all over. :) Anyways yeah its hard. I hated high school :(

I hated highschool so much. I had like zero friends except the really wierd people who hung out with me. Trust me when I say this, College is so much more better than highschool All the bullsh*t that goes on in hgihschool is gone in college at least for me. I still have nightmares about highschool everynow and I graduated in 2004!

    It gets better, I promise.

I never had the brains to do the dual enrollment if it even existed in the 1970′s, but what I’m hearing, it sounds like you have it fantastic! LUCKILY, you are on your last year in that school, and you get a wonderful future to look forward to since you do fit in at the college so well! They aren’t mean to you in your private school, which is decent, and its only one hour a week! Concentrate on the fantastic rest of the week you have with those wonderful people you do get to fit in with! Think of that one hour a week as a babysitting job! LOL! Then you get to get back with the Grown Ups for the rest of the week!

I hope you are able to put up with that hour okay and have a great time in college!

I’m a little confused how its your 13th year of school if you are only 16 and you did K-12 skipping your senior year? You were 3 when you started Kindergarten?
