I need (a) scholarship(s) and/or grants, but I don’t know where to begin.?

I am a senior in high school and I am a really good student academically. I have no idea where to begin finding scholarships or grants though. I’ve used fastweb for over a year already, but none of the scholarships ever seem to apply to me. I know where I want to go to college, and I’m pretty sure what I want to major in. Does that even matter? My high school counselor isn’t helpful, or at least doesn’t seem to care. I’m number one in my class, but I bet my counselor couldn’t tell you my name. So I need help, desperately. Any tips? Please.
I want to major in Physiology and Developmental Biology at Brigham Young University. What is a scholarship book?

Talk to your college–if your grades are that high and your ACT/SAT scores are high, you’ll get academic scholarships. What are you involved in at high school? You’ll be able to get scholarships doing those things too.

About the scholarships themselves–get a book of scholarships and spend the winter filling out as many as you can. If you don’t think they apply to you, just do it. You never know.

Also, what is your major? If you’re a female and going into math, then you’ll get a scholarship. If you’re going to go into English, you’re out of luck.

Try this scholarship book: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780743265485&itm=3

Not everyone publishes their scholarships on the web, so it’s easier to find and enter ones. They have scholarships for EVERYONE and anyone.

You need to start by filling out a FAFSA form. Look it up online. Punch in all the information and that will get you started. Therer are federal grants and loans that you may qualify for. Just do a search online. But before you can see what is available you HAVE to fill out a FAFSA.References :

When do you plan to start college? Fall 2007 is my guess. In that case, what you need to complete to apply for federal financial aid grants is to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can do this online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. DO NOT go to http://www.fafsa.com or they’ll charge you! The 07-08 FAFSA isn’t available till January 2007, so you still have time. What you’ll need to get together is yours and your parents 2006 federal tax return if filed. If they don’t file immediately, you can still complete your FAFSA using yours and parents W-2 forms from the year to estimate the information needed on the FAFSA. At the school section of the FAFSA, you can include up to 6 schools, each of which will contact you regarding your financial aid file within 6-8 weeks of submitting your FAFSA. So, if you’re not sure which school you’ll definitely be attending come Fall, you can add up to 6 from your dream school to your last resort and either way you’ll have your financial aid started early. As far as state grants, the qualifications and required forms vary from state to state. Check out the website http://www.going2college.org for lots of other helpful information specific to your state. Good luck!References :

Take a trip to the library and check out some scholarship books. Librarians are usually really helpful people and should be able to show you a good list of resources. Also, don’t be afraid to talk to the financial aid office of a local college or university in your city. A lot of times they are more than willing to help students that are looking to pursue a higher education degree. Good luck and congrats on being number 1!References :

Here is an idea, how about scheduling an appointment with your high school advisor and attending college fairs. They will hook you up.References :

    Hi,

Great post! I had the same exact grant question a few months ago. It’s really tricky to find out about this stuff on the net, but my wife bought me special special software (CD) for my birthday. The program rocks for finding the grant info you want. btw…this is the software that was featured on CNBC and in USA Today.

This company is giving away the software free (only $3.95 for shipping)!!!!!!!
    Here’s the link

I’m sure you’ll find the info there
    Good luckReferences :
